雅-MIYAVI- rocks NY. This fall, he re-debuts with new single “TORTURE” + mobile download will get fans the chance to win All Access Backstage Passes to ALL 12 of his Tokyo Tour dates!
In the middle of his 15-date North American Tour, on June 26 雅-MIYAVI- held a press conference at Kinokuniya Bookstore in NY. After a flood of applications to catch a glimpse of this enigmatic and exotic figure in the flesh, 200 lucky fans accompanied by over 30 local media reps gathered for a Q&A session and live performance. The 1200-seater venue scheduled for the following day sold out, and unlike most shows by Japanese artists on foreign soil, the majority of fans in the audience were non-Japanese. Some of the fans in the queue at opening time had been camping outside for up to 2 days before. These facts indicate the astounding growth of 雅-MIYAVI-`s true popularity outside of Japan. The 18-song set was a stripped-down, raw, and emotional rock extravaganza, with fans chanting along en masse to their favorite songs (in Japanese!). The North American Tour ends this week on July 4 in Houston. Having started his chain of tours in Tokyo last September, 雅-MIYAVI- has since played in Russia, Europe, South America, Asia, Japan again, and now North America; 60 dates in 10 months, and literally around the globe.
3 years since his last release and the first from EMI Music Japan, the details of his brand new single “TORTURE” were uploaded onto his official website today. Co-produced by former Strokes engineer Toshikazu Yoshioka, the sheer heaviness of the track makes it hard to believe that the only instruments to feature on it are雅-MIYAVI-`s trademark slap-guitar and the tight-as-nails drumming by Bobo (from legendary post-rock band 54-71). The message of the song is about boldly keeping on in the face of adversities, and is a fitting start to his re-debut.
In addition to the standard edition single, fans can also get their hands on a limited edition featuring an extra live song CD, with a choice wad of bonus live footage taken from shows in Tokyo, NY, and LA. The standard edition is a mere “one-coin” 500yen, making it all the more accessible to the as yet uninitiated.
Prior to the release, the song will be made available as a mobile download from June 30, and until July 20 there will be an exclusive download period on Recochoku.jp, where fans can win a chance to participate as special reporters in all 12 shows of 雅-MIYAVI-`s Tokyo Tour, with 3 name-printed and laminated AAV (Access All Venues) passes up for grabs.
